“Healing garden” the herbal garden developed by the staff of Medical College, Thrissur is unique and first ever enterprise of its kind under the directorate of Medical Education. It is rather a trend-setting enterprise arousing green consciousness in Medical College Campus. Basically it consists of medicinal plants though fruit-bearing plants and other varied ranges of plants are growing there.
The garden came in to existence in 2007 in one acre barren land in the campus by the then District collector Dr. Beena IAS. Supply of plants and support were extended by Oushadhi, TSR.Initially 250 saplings were planted.
There were many hardships in the course of execution of the project. Water-scarcity is the major menace of medical college. Employees watered the plants by bringing water in buckets and protected them from severe draught in mid-summer seasons. It was only because of the self-less dedication, hard work of a team of staff under the leadership of principal Dr. K. Praveenlal with support from the Government, the success story of ‘Healing garden’ could be woven. The enterprise is whole heartedly supported by doctors, Students and each and every one of the institution.
Few names like Dr. M.J. Cyriac, Dr. Remla Beevi, Smt. Geethakumary, Dr. Rajithan, Sri Ramachandran, Sri Aniyan T.C., Sri Madhu K.S., Sri. Jacob etc. are rememberable for their initiatives. Coordination activities are done by E. Madhusoodhanan, a staff of college office. Persons involved with selfless commitment are numerous and their services are highly esteemed.
Dr. K. Praveenlal, the principal allowed one more acre of land additionally to the development of the existing healing garden. Statues of Gandhiji, Budda, Tagore, Netaji, Ambedkar and cultural artistic works were installed in the site. Dr. Sukumar Azhikode, the pole-star of Culture & Literature of Kerala, has unveiled the statues. Dr. K.G. Sankarapillai, the renowned poet has planted ‘Neer mathalam’ in memory of late ‘Kamala suraiah’
The garden consists of a large number of herbal plants
Apart from this, Nakshathravanam’ is developed inside the garden.Beautification plants were also planted among the herbal plants. Fruit - bearing plants like mango, jackfruit, orange etc for students of next generation were planted which will make a natural-habitat for the birds, butterflies too. For the amusement of the children and students, facilities like swing, seso etc are being arranged.
An open stage named ‘Love Shade’ (Snehathanal) was arranged inside the garden. A cultural programmme named ‘Nilavinte geetham’ (song of the moon light) has been conducted at the venue propagating the notion of Antiterrorism.
Arch Bishop Mar Andrews Thazath, Sri Muhammed Faisy, Swami Prasanandaji, Sri. Babu M. Pallissery MLA, Sri. Madambu Kunjukuttan, Dist. Judge Sri Kamal Pasha were partaken in the function.

Green Campus 
Success of ‘Healing Garden’ instilled strength and vigor to the initiatives for making ‘green campus’. A concerted effort under the flagship of Principal Dr. Praveenlal with support from the government, has been commenced in this direction.
Gibeesh Park
Students have developed a study park in memory of late Sri. Gibeesh, student of Medical College, Thrissur. The park is very attractive and irresistibly adds beauty to the face lift of the college.
Protected Forest
The development of the Medical College is fast and existing forest of the campus is being wiped out when infrastructural outfits are constructed for the increasing academic and patient care needs.
The Government with a far-sight has initiated the idea of protecting the existing untouched natural forest of the campus as special programme. Around ‘7’ acres of land full of sky-scraping trees will be protected for the future generations. This area will be reserved for natural trees kept untouched and unviolated forever. The area will be earmarked in the name of late Sri. Keralavarma, in whose name of the former K.V. Sanatorium of M.C. Campus existed. This will be a most valuable treasure of Medical College, Thrissur for the future.
Now the works of greening of campus are going on vehemently with the assistance of KFRI, Oushadhi, Forest Dept., Avanur/Mundathikode Grama Panchayaths, DRDA, Superintendents of both the collegiate hospitals and all staff & students. 
Sufficient labour is being provided by the panchayaths utilising the NREGP scheme. This is a great help for the green mission of the institution. The avenues of the college are being planted with various tree saplings under this programme. Bamboo planting: The land surrounded to the Rain water Harvesting pond will be planted with various types of bamboos supplied by KFRI.
No doubt, Medical College Thrissur will contribute their part to the call of green world, sure.
